8570w

There are a few questions about the speed of the mSATA port on the 8570w and confusion about SATA speeds. As most of those threads are locked, I am posting this in the hopes people may find it in the future, if searching for this problem.

The Ivy Bridge Intel family supports six (6) SATA channels total. Though, it only as two (2) SATA III ports (6Gb/s), the rest are all SATA II (3Gb/s). HP decided to route the two SATA III ports to the 2.5" drive bay and the removable "upgrade" bay (typically used for CD/DVD drives). The rest (eSATA, mSATA, Port Replicator ports which use SATA) are all SATA II.

If you want the fastest speeds from your SSD drive, you need to install them in the 2.5" drive bay or get an adapter to install it in the removable "upgrade" bay.
