Hi,

I want to add SSD to my laptop in addition to the existing 2TB harddisk. I see that the board has the slot for M2 SSD. It is written as "M2X3" for the port and also above it "JSSD" is mentioned.

I am confused on which type of M.2 SSD I should buy. Should I go for M.2 SATA SSD or M.2 NVMe

The slot on the board has single cut as can be seen in the below attached picture. Does that mean, it supports M.2 NVMe SSD? Please help.

This link shows 2 types with M and B.  http://www.bplus.com.tw/jpg/compatibility%20M.2%20SSD_M2P4A_1.png

The port in my laptop has one cutting. so is it M which means, NVMe SSD is compatible? Please help.

The specs of your machine is

            https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05835979

It has Intel core CPU/Processor namely Intel® Core™ i5-8250U (1.6 GHz base frequency, up to 3.4 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 6 MB cache, 4 cores) therefore it supports Dual storage options with M.2 SATA SSD drive + 2.5" HDD drive. Therefore you can add M.2 SATA SSD to your machine using Crucial MX500 or Samsung 860EVO or similar.

Hi Banhien,

Thank you for the quick answer. Can you also help me on the below please?

Would any of the below ones be suitable? Crucial one is 500 GB. Don't know how much capacity laptop will support.

My worry is, all these below have two cuts but the port on the laptop board has just one cut.

Crucial MX500 500GB M.2 Type 2280 SSD

Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SATA M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

WD Green m.2 SSD

WD Blue 250GB M.2 Internal Solid State Drive

Thank you very much Banhien for your support. I think most of my doubts are now cleared. I will go for any one of the below of 250GB capacity since I don't know the maximum capacity that the board supports and it is not clearly mentioned in the service manual. So, to be safe, i will go for 250gb SSD.

Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SATA M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

WD Blue 250GB 3D NAND SATA M.2 2280 Internal Solid State Drive
