Tech Specs:

  • AMD A10-9600P@ 2.40GHz
  • RADEON R5
  • 8.0 GB RAM DD4 (2*4 GB)
  • RADEON R7
  • 1 TB HDD
  • Windows 10 x64
  • IDE ATA/ATAPI-Controler: AMD-SATA-Controler
  • Samsung V-NAND SSD 850 EVO (250GB)
  • BIOS was updated at 15.05.17

 

I wanna use instead of the slow and loud DVD Drive a fast and quite SSD.

So I removed the optical Drive and connected the SSD

but neither Windows nor GPartedLive is able to find the SSD.

Together with a fellow student I have checked all my components (SSD, caddy, SATA Controler).

I connect the SSD via USB and was able to boot.

The connection for the optical drive is a special animal. Nominally it is a SATA port but it is usually a downclocked SATA bus since an optical drive works as well as it is going to work with a SATA-I connection. I generally tell folks not to put an SSD in an optical drive caddy; put the SSD inside the laptop so it can be the bootdisk and then put the legacy hardware in the optical drive bay.
