Hello y'all. I want to ask something. I plan to upgrade my storage from HDD to SSD. But there is 1 thing that I am confused about. We can use the HDD that we previously had as external storage. Can an SSD also be like an external HDD by making the SSD into external storage? Can an external SSD be used on all laptop series including old laptops, Or only for the latest laptops?

"Can an SSD also be like an external HDD by making the SSD into external storage?" You did not state which type of SSD.
You can put the SSD in an enclosure or connect it to a laptop with a USB to SATA adapter.
Can an external SSD be used on all laptop series including old laptops, Or only for the latest laptops?
If you mean Windows laptops and Windows operating systems, then generally the answer is yes.
The limitation is the type of disk volume system created on the external disk.
(MBR/GPT/ Linux LVM/Apple APFS/ Mac OS Extended)
Windows laptops will not be able to recognize MacOS file system external disks or Linux file system external disks
