Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to replace my 128g ssd with a 500g ssd. I have purchased a Samsung V-Nano SSD - 860 EVO SATA M.2 - 500g.

I did confirm with HP that the drive is compatible and will work.

When I installed and booted from Windows USB installation, it only displays my secondary drive.

I accessed the BIOS and honestly don't know where I can check if the hard drive is actually detected. Are there any settings I need to change in the BIOS to detect the drive?

I have searched on Google but unable to find any instructions.

Can anyone assist me with a step-by-step guide?

See p. 19. HP only offered PCIe/NVME M.2 SSDs with the laptop. Usually an M.2 slot will accept ONLY SATA or EITHER SATA or NVME. However, it seems likely that in this case the M.2 slot may ONLY support NVME M.2 not SATA. Try reseating the M.2 SSD in the slot. If it does not show up and appear as an installation option to a Windows 10 installer disk and does not appear in the boot order list in the BIOS (tap F9 as you power up) then I think you need to get an NVME M.2 SSD such as the Evo 970. 

 

See p. 33. You do have a pair of M.2 slots. Have you tried the SSD in both slots?
