I tried a Samsung Evo 970 NVMe but it didn't work.

Hi:

 

Only SATA M.2 SSD's are supported in the model series.

 

See chapter 1 of the service manual for the supported drive types:

Look into one of the Western Digital Blue SA510 M.2 SATA SSD's in a storage capacity that meets your needs and budget.
