Envy M6-K012dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all.

Please bear with me as this is my first post....

My laptop is an Envy M6-K012dx  AMD K10 processor

I am attempting to upgrade the lone 1TB HDD in my laptop to an SSD.  I have tried two different manufacturers and different capacities as well.

Samsung 870 evo 1TB and a PNY 500MB....

I have tried both cloning the original drive and doing a fresh windows install with a bootable USB...I get as far as choosing what partition to install Windows to and i get a "No Drives Detected" error.

Using a USB external cable, I have initialized the drive on another machine and even done a long format....still no joy

I am running BIOS v F19  (The latest, I believe)

I have tried disabling Secure Boot and enabling Legacy mode, both to no avail....

Any other suggestions?

Thank in advance

That is a somewhat older machine. Its an AMD A series 5th gen. While it runs native AHCI and should work with a SATA SSD, sometimes newer SSDs are not detectable to older machines. What exact model number is your PNY? The 870 evo is very new.

Thank you for the quick reply....I have ordered a refurbished Samsung 840 SSD circa 2012-2013.  Fingers crossed.

Thank you again for the help
