HP Pavilion — 15-bc404ur
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to put in this laptop drive SSD PCI-E 3.0 x4, will it work correctly? How do I know the supported M.2 SSD formats on my motherboard? Will PCI-E 3.0 or SATA 3 only? Just want to buy a fast drive and don't know what speed to choose.

After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA hard drive installed on the PC.

And, this computer supports both SSD and HDD and also supports M.2 SATA storage: Click here to know more about Hard drive compatibility. (Ref: 8 Chapter 1 Product description)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
