I am getting occasional SSD errors like this one. Yet, when I look at events in the advanced properties' events tab, I see nothing reported. What HP test would you recommend to confirm the diagnostic?

I recommend using the Hynix SSD manufacture's diagnostic.
You can find it avilable for downloading at thy Hynix website. It is titled Drive Manager.

May I ask if you SSD is at or above 90% of its storage capacity?
Is your notebook still in its warranty period? (that is one year free factory warranty)

Thanks for replying! I just used the Hynix SSD and it reports a status of "Good" but with 0% life remaining! Which is kinda confusing. As reported the drive is 85% full. Unfortunately my laptop has been out of warranty since May 2021.

I would tend to believe the manufacturer's diagnostic, specifically the "0% life remaining part", and replace it with a new one.
The failure is surprising and the first one I have seen here in the forum. SSD products generally get 10k+ hours of use.
Have you been using the laptop to mine crypto or something type of community computing while you are not using it?
I wouldn't risk my data. Do you backup to an external storage device periodically?
"As reported the drive is 85% full." I suspect you meant to type the word "requested".

I am also surprised, given that I don't use my laptop while I'm away (mining crypto? what's that?!? 😀)
How can I do a full image backup of the SSD, which is my boot/OS drive? I'd appreciate if you could recommend a replacement SSD. I'd probably want to upgrade to 512gb if that is possible. Thanks for all your help!

Crypto is Cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin. Crypto currency mining is the reason that video card prices have shot through the roof.
There are server farms completely dedicated to cryptocurrencey mining.
For the replacement M.2 SSD, I recommend the Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD. It is a 500GB unit.
For cloning the current SSD in the notebook, EaseUS Todo backup is my recommendation.
