I have asked this question before but not able to get clarity. Will my HP BC 406TX  laptop support the following SSD in addition to already existing 1TB  HDD:

Its tough to give a definitive answer because the Service Manual for this model covers a few other model series some of which have different capabilities. Here is the Manual:

The specs for your model series start on p. 4. It says SATA M.2 and HP only sold it with a dual drive configuration using SATA M.2. However, it is also capable of having an Optane module and Optane modules are NVME devices. Therefore, my conclusion is that HP did not sell it with a PCIe/NVME M.2 SSD, but you could install one and it would work. So, in response to your direct question: #2 will work for sure and #1would work in my opinion which is based on quite a bit of hands on with these things and familiarity with how the Manuals are written.
