I am considering an update to ssd in my HP PAVILION 15AU-189TX LAPTOP, manual says it has M2 slot(sata 3). I opened up the system and found it
IS this a m2 slot because i dont see any screw hole ahead of it?
if it is do i need to buy additional board to attach m2 ssd ?
there is always an option to buy 2.5 inch ssd But i want to know about the M2 slot status of this laptop
and crucial website shows it support m2 type ssd 2280. here

Sorry that is not an M.2 slot that is a mini-SATA connector for a DVD drive. On your model the M.2 slot is supposed to be on the other side of the chassis. In your bottom picture it would be to the left of the hard drive right above the white ribbon cable with the blue tip plugging into what I think is the card reader board. See the rectangular outline above that? Those are traces on the motherboard where an M.2 slot could have been soldered on but your motherboard was not made with one and it cannot be added now. Your only way to have any kind of SSD is to replace the hard drive with a 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Post back with any other questions.
