What type of SSD can i buy to upgrade my laptop (15-ay109ne) SATA or M.2 ?

Not sure your laptop is a "Star Wars" model but either way it is built on the same platform. 

 

There is no dual storage support so no dedicated M.2 slot. M.2 SATA SSD can be used but requires a mounting sled and special cable. Since a SATA M.2 and 2.5 inch SATA SSD run at the same general speed, there is nothing to be gained by adapting a SATA M.2. You can place a 2.5 inch SATA  SSD in lieu of the mechanical hard drive (i.e replace the hard drive with 2.5 inch SSD) and use the same mounting hardware.
