HP Envy X360 15-u010dx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have an HP Envy x360 15-u010dx and the original drive in this laptop is a Hybrid SSD, Slim, by Western Digital. Now i was doing some searching so I could upgrade this laptop's memory and harddrive, since the harddrive is now bottlenecking the laptop's performance. I could just replace it with a new of the same, but instead of doing so, i want to upgrade to a new SSD. Now i tried to fit a normal sized SSD in the laptop and its slightly taller than the current drive that I have. (Context to the story, the SSD drive i used to measure is an old SSD and is out of commission, and due to the keyboard platform being held in place with clips, i don't want to close the laptop and have to reopen it a bunch of times, as i can assure you, unnecessary clips will break). As i was searching online, i saw that HP had some kind of contraption when it comes to slim SSDs. I will post an image blow and the link where I found it.

(Honestly this just looks like an M.2 conversion to SATA, but I'm not sure what will or wont work)

So my question remains, will a normal sized SSD still fit in this laptop, or where can i find something that will, such as what is in the above image?

Thank you in advanced.

Hi:

I googled the part number for that M.2 kit and HP does not sell it.

HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts

I checked ebay...nada.

So, you would have to see if you can find it on a 3rd party website.

I would just get a regular 2.5" x 7.0mm SSD.

Hi:

If you wanted to convert to a M.2 SATA SSD, chapter 3, page 15 of the service manual has the part you need to look for.

c04341936.pdf (hp.com)

Solid-state Drive Hardware Kit
(not illustrated; includes cable, bracket, and screws)
HP part # 777653-001

Then you should be able to install a WD Blue SATA M.2 SSD, which provides the best performance for the price, in my opinion.

NVMe SSD's are not supported for your model notebook.

It also appears you can use a standard 2.5 x 7.0 MM SSD.

You can get a WD Blue SSD in that size too.

That was the drive size for the one you originally had.

See chapter 3.

Does HP still sell these parts directly, or what is the best place I could look for the part? I'm having difficulties navigating HP's website and stores.

Yeah, that was my back up plan, i wasn't sure if it was gonna cause issue due to the size difference since the height is an important aspect when it comes to slim computers
