Hi:

Your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports NVMe SSD's.

See chapter 1 of the service manual for the supported drive types.

Thanks for the quick reply, Paul!

Can I upgrade it to a dual storage configuration i.e 512 GB PCIe SSD + 1 TB HDD(existing?) instead of the 256 GB SSD mentioned in the manual?

Cheers,

You're very welcome, Debapratim.

Yes, that should be fine.

The drive capacities listed in the service manual are just what HP offered in the model series and should not be the maximum capacity supported.

If you would like a couple of recommendations for NVMe SSDs, I recommend either the Samsung 980 (not 980 Pro) or Western Digital Blue SN570.

There is one other thing you should be aware of that other forum members have reported regarding NVMe SSD performance in the 15-da0xxx model series and that is the drive only runs at about 1/2 of its maximum rated speeds.

The only thing I can think of for that happening is because the M.2 slot is PCIe Gen 3 x 2 and not Gen 3 x 4 and only two PCIe lanes are available.

The good news is that should still be around 3 x faster than a SATA SSD would perform.

Thanks for the info, Paul!

I'll indeed look into these SSDs. Have a great day!
