Pavilion x360 15-br158cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I currently have a Pavilion x360 15-br158cl laptop with a 1TB 5400 HDD and 8 GB RAM. Does this model have the option to upgrade to a M.2 NVMe SSD or only the SATA 3 SSD? Also, can you upgrade the RAM in this laptop model? How many slots are in it?

Hi,

Max Ram is 32GB of DDR4 2400Mhz (2x16GB) even if service manual mentions 16GB.

There are two slots and you have one 8GB stick and one empty slot. You can purchase from your preferred brand such as Crucial, Samsung...

On page 45 of service manual you can see the steps to upgrade RAM

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05473330

The service manual mentions support for M2 SATA3 SSD such as the Samsung 860 Evo or similar. You should however first check if the slot is present on motherboard, as sometimes notebooks that did not come with M2 SSD are missing physical port.

Hope it helps,

David

Just a confirmation and a thank you.

Model 15-br158cl, Win10 Home

I just finished replacing my factory 1TB HDD with a 500G SSD and replacing the factory single 8GB with x2 16GB, using the manual in your link.

The drive swap was relatively easy once the keyboard is off, the HDD is not even held in with screws.

Getting to the RAM, however, is not for the faint of heart. Keep close track of the screws, and be careful of the wifi antenna cables. I accidentally left mine connected during the MB removal process and pulled the WAN board off the MB. Fortunately there was no damage and everything went back together well.

At my age I found reseating the tiny antenna cables a serious challenge, but use of a magnifying work light helped.

First time the machine came up after reassembly it said it had a CMOS error and needed to reboot, which it did. After that it's been fine. I've rebooted a couple of times to make sure.

Windows does see the full 32GB RAM.

BTW mine does not have an M2 port that I can find.

Again, thanks Iomare, much appreciated.
