Elitebook 840 G1
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello everyone,

I recently had an Elitebook 840G1 with a 128Go SATA drive, i7, and 8gbit of ram.

I would like to update it, particularly the drive. I have two solutions:

- Buy an M.2 SSD. Unfortunately, I do not know which one can I buy 2242 or 2260? Do you know one M.2 SSD not really expensive in a proper size?

- Buy a SATA drive to change the old original one. But Do you know how to clone the original, with all partitions ( recovery, data, system, etc.)? I do not want to buy a SSD and lost the windows license and the possibility of recovery.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

Althife

It supports M.2 SATA SSD's up to 2280 (length 80mm) .

For the second question, there are many free clone software. You can clone the WHOLE existing old HDD to a new SSD (must be equal or larger capacity). My suggestion clone to 1TB or 2TB 2.5" SSD, you can resize drives later.

Please use the following free software

I normally use the last one on the list, very easy with only few clicks. I use a dock but you need an enclosure or adapter to connect. For example

After the cloning process, you can simply swap HDD out/SSD in and use old HDD as an external drive.

Regards.
