Pavilion ab 220nr 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

Recently I bought SSD and installed windows 10 in it while removed hdd during installation.

I placed SSD in place of HDD and HDD then in place of DVD slot using a kit.

The original window came pre installed with laptop which is embedded in its bios.

So now when I restarted my laptop with both ssd and hdd installed, my hdd boots even though it is installed in my DVD slot and I even changed the boot order. Also tell me about USB/ Diskette thing, like how do I know whether which one is my ssd and which one my hdd because one is named as notebook boot etc.

I only know about booting from ssd if I try to directly choose from boot option, there it clearly shows whether to boot from my TOSHIBA HDD and SAMSUNG SSD

Strange thing is that both the windows are activated now, the thing is I also formatted the recovery local disk pre built with it.

Shall I format the original windows local disk to make the laptop understand to boot from ssd.

Thanks

You already anticipated my answer. Yes it is always a problem to have two different activated Windows installations on the same computer. I am a bit surprised the system will boot from a hard drive in the optical slot but you are not the first person to report that.

Format the drive in the optical caddy and you will boot only from the SSD.

On some computers, the boot order is divided into "groups", namely the "disk-drive" group and the "removable-devices" group.  In that case, you have to access the "disk-drive" group, to list the SSD as the first member of the group, demoting the HDD to become the second member of the group.  Then, you have to nominate the "disk-drive" group as the primary group.

Is this applicable to your computer?
