Hello,
I purchased HP Probook 440 G5 (1MJ79AV) a week ago. It comes with 1TB HDD. However, I'd like to install an additional SSD for higher performance. I am currently looking at Samsung 960 EVO 500GB (MZ-V6E500BW)
I'd like to know if this M2 SSD is compatible with my Probook.
Thanks for advance.

You have easy access doors on the bottom:
The bottom of the computer has two service doors. The drive service door provides access to the hard drive and M.2 solid-state drive. The main service door provides access to the memory modules, wireless modules, and keyboard screws.
There is an M.2 slot under the bigger service door. The laptop supports PCIe/NVME M.2 2280 disks like the Samsung 960 EVO. HOWEVER, many users here on the Forum have reported issues where that particular drive is not recognized by HP laptop even with otherwise functional M.2 ports. A few have reported success, however. While I am a big fan of Samsung products I generally advise people to try to get one of the drives specified by HP, which are generally Samsung PM961 M.2 disks. They are a bit harder to find, a little more expensive, and possibly even tiny bit slower than the 960, but you do not want an incompatible disk.
Post back with any questions but please accept as solution if this is the answer you needed.

Thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate that.
I know how to install it, i just wanted to make sure if it's compatible with my laptop. My probook's manual says i can install up to 512GB TLC SSD. The one i posted is 500GB and it says V-Nand, just wanted to make sure of it if V-NAND is compatible with ProBook.
Thanks for your advice regarding the HP SSD, I'll look into it.

Also, the Amazon link you posted about Samsung PM961, it says its MLC, are MLC SSDs compatible with Probook too or only TLC?
Sorry for newbie questions, I am not a tech savvy person.

Your questions are rather advanced for a newbie. Yes I believe the 256 gig PCIe/NVME is an MLC disk. In any event, I have installed PM961s in 4 different HP laptops and a PM951 in another, all 6th through 8th gen Intel Core processors and never had a glitch, while I continue to answer a lot of questions from Forum users who buy the Evo 960 or the Pro 960 install it and the laptop dies not even recognize it.
Nobody has adequately explained it. Some have suggested it is the V-NAND but nobody seems to really know. There have also been problems however with other very new PCIe/NVME M.2 disks from other brands. SATA M.2s seem to have broad compatibility.

Thanks. In that case, I'll opt for 512GB HP SSD. According to the specs on Amazon, it has almost similar to Evo 960. Pricing is not an issue, as I need to run few heavy networking emulators.
Thanks for your support.
