It would work but would not run as fast as its capability. The 980 is for PCIe 4th gen systems which include some desktop motherboards at this point and not many laptops, and not the one you ask about. Its PCie 3rd gen and a Samsung 970 Evo would work as well as the laptop is capable of running an NVME M.2 SSD, and would likely be a bit less expensive. Good luck.

Thank you that was my exact thought. Just for clarification since I don't plan on upgrading my laptop in whole anytime soon it's best to go with the 970 EVO? I know its only about a 100$ difference but if they both will presumably be the same speed for this laptop I'll go with the 970.

That is what I am saying exactly. There will never be a significantly faster gen 3 PCIe M.2 SSD. Development has now moved to gen 4 product. Your laptop will never be able to be upgraded to gen 4 capability. A 970 is very very fast as it is.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Ended up going with the 970. Would like to install Windows 7 instead of 10 on it. Tried multiple installation usbs and can't get any of them to work. Any ideas? One will successfully install everything then wont boot. Second and third stop with a red  line before even getting to installation screen. Windows 10 will boot, but not 7.

Windows 7 will not run on anything newer than 7th gen Intel cpus.
