SSD drive for HP Laptop - 17-by3053cl

Want to replace 1TB hard drive with 1TB SSD.   What drive is recommenced for this laptop?

You have two options:

You can replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD>

I recommend this one:

For the best performance since your notebook has support for a M.2 NVMe SSD (up to 5x faster than a SATA SSD), you can install one of those instead.

You can either remove the 2.5" drive entirely, or format the drive and use it for storage only. 

You can't have Windows on the drive, or the PC will always want to boot from the 2.5" drive first and not the NVMe SSD.

I recommend the Crucial P3:

Thank you so much for this info.   It is exactly what I was looking for.  I probably will go the M2 route.   Is there a specific length for this laptop?   I see they come in different lengths.

I gave you the link to a suggested NMVe SSD--the Crucial P3.

If you want a different model NVMe SSD you look for a M.2 2280 form factor.

The M2 card you recommended doesn’t fit doesn’t fit.  I have pics so you can see.

The picture of the inside of your PC you posted shows that you are pointing to the DVD drive connector, not the M.2 SSD.

The M.2 SSD slot is to the right of that white '17" ICL-CL' lettering you can see in the bottom left of the picture.

The slot is labeled SSD in white lettering at the upper left corner of the picture of the slot.
