Microsoft Windows 11

Hi everyone!

Trying to clarify the matter with SSD upgrade for EliteBook 840 G5, I've found a discussion in which there was a reply from Huffer, saying that the one shall look for either key "B" or "B+M" key at the SSD to upgrade with. Most probably there is some misleading in the answer, 'cause "M" keyed SSDes are definitely supported - at least HP L17246-001 (which is suggested in the HP's Maintenance and Service Guide along with a number of other "M" keyed SSDes) + Samsung 980 MZ-V8V1T0BW (by experience). Maybe "M" keyed SSD will not work at full performance, since "B" key pins might be missing at notebook, letting use "B" keyed SSD?

You can use Samsung 980 EVO M.2 NVMe SSD (Gen 3)

You can also use PCIe Gen 4 M.2 NVMe SSD but it also run at 50% speed.. My 840 G5 machine came with 256GB, I upgraded to 2TB Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD 3 months ago.

Please do NOT confuse B and B+M. Not all machines support BOTH types of M.2 drives. Many machines ONLY support M.2 SATA drives .Your HP 840 G5 supports M.2 NVMe - You can see its picture on the previous link.. More information
