Welcome to our HP User Forum!
Please verify that once you have removed the back panel of your Victus by HP Laptop 16-e0100ur (55C08EA), that your model looks like this:
As you can see, the M.2 NVMe SSD slot to the right is a Gen4 slot -and for speed should be your primary (boot) drive, whereas the M.2 NVMe SSD slot to the left is a Gen3 M.2 NVMe SSD slot.
For Gen3 M.2 NVMe SSDs, there are so many quality options to choose from. Here are some Gen3 drive examples: Samsung 970 EVO/970 EVO Plus, Western Digital Black SN750 or the SN770, Crucial P5 Plus, etc. etc.
For Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSDs, the same is true: so many outstanding drives to consider. One of the best would be the Western Digital Black SN850X with read speeds up to 7,300 MB/s and write speeds up to 6,300 MB/s. Of course, the Samsung 980 or the Samsung 980 PRO, which ranks similarly with 7,000/5,000 MB/s read-write speeds, etc.
If you were to install a Gen4 drive in a Gen3 slot, this Gen4 drive will run at Gen3 speeds.
There is no capacity limit to either of these M.2 NVMe SSDs, you are only limited by your budget. M.2 NVMe SSDs beyond 4TB would be very expensive, and you probably wouldn't need that much internal storage anyway. 2 x 2TB would be the max as I see it, and if you need more storage, I would recommend to use an external USB-connected SSD storage device.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,
