Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have HP Notebook - 15-da0389tu that is almost 4 years old and recently last year I upgraded  my laptops RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB and after that I upgraded SSD by changing 1 TB HDD to 1000 GB SSD of Crucial and it works good but after 8 months my SSD is not working well. The boot time has increased and SSD is always at 100% in taskbar and system lag a lot but RAM usage is barely goes to 50% and processor working very well too. I don't know why SSD is working like this and it frustrated me a lot. If there is any solution for this please help me.

Thanks,

Ahtesham

Hi @ahtesham18,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're facing with your SSD. There are several potential reasons for SSD performance degradation, and I'll provide some steps you can take to troubleshoot and improve the situation.

Check Storage Health:

  • Use a tool like CrystalDiskInfo to check the health and status of your SSD. This will provide information about the drive's health, temperature, and other parameters.
  • Some SSD manufacturers also provide specific software for checking the health of their drives. Check if Crucial has a diagnostic tool for your SSD.

Update SSD Firmware:

  • Ensure that your SSD has the latest firmware. Manufacturers often release firmware updates that can improve performance and address potential issues.

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Make sure your motherboard's storage controller drivers are up-to-date. Visit the official website of your laptop's manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer to download and install the latest drivers.

Trim Function:

  • Ensure that TRIM is enabled on your SSD. TRIM helps maintain the performance of your SSD over time. You can check if TRIM is enabled by typing "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify" in Command Prompt. If the result is 0, TRIM is enabled.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Investigate if there are any background processes or applications causing excessive disk usage. Use Task Manager to identify resource-intensive processes.

Disk Cleanup:

  • Use the built-in Disk Cleanup tool to remove unnecessary files from your SSD. Over time, temporary files and other clutter can affect performance.

Disable Windows Indexing:

  • Indexing can sometimes cause high disk usage. You can disable Windows Search indexing for your SSD by going to "Control Panel > Indexing Options" and removing your SSD from the indexed locations.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan with a reliable antivirus program to ensure that your system is not infected with malware.

Monitor Background Applications:

  • Some applications may run in the background and consume resources. Check your startup programs and disable unnecessary ones.

Remember to back up your important data before attempting any significant changes to your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
