I just installed an M.2 SSD SATA.  I used a clone tool to copy the 1TB.  When it rebooted, it booted with the 1TB.  So I disconnected the 1TB drive and re-booted.  It came up with the SSD.  Shut it down again and reconnected the 1TB drive.  It booted up with the SSD.  Went into UEFI, under HD Boot (or whatever it is called), both drives showed up with the SSD highlighted.

thank you. disconnecting and reconnecting hdd solved it. bios changed the boot drive sequence by itself. though point to note: bios doesn't let you change the sequence even if it lists both hdd and ssd. Not sure why hp would do that..

appreciate it

SRSinHB, please recommend a clone tool to copy 1TB to SATA SSD.  I'm considering going same route and adding SSD to this 8th Gen i7.  thx

Most of the SSD manufactures offer a transfer tool.  I bought the Crucial SSD and they offer a free version of Acronis on their website.  It handles the down sizing (i.e. 1TB to 500GB) of the drive as long as your data is less than the size of the new drive.

What size of crucial ssd are you getting? I have got 256gb but want to go 525 if makes sense

The 526 seemed to be the best trade off of size, time to install and money.

Did you guys put in another SSD with your existing HDD? I was wondering because I saw someone say it's a single storage configuration.  If you did put one in the SSD with your HDD, I would like to know how did you guys do it. Appreciate all the help. Thanks!
