HP G61-320CA Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

installed a samsung evo 870 ssd in my G61-320CA but sata driver only allows 50% of the ssd speed potential, Is there any drivers or adjustments I can implement, I also increased ram to 800 mhz on the 8 gb max I installed from the previous 667 mhz 3 gb factory installed?

The Samsung Evo 870 SATA SSD is running as fast as it should--at 50% of its advertised read/write speed.

That's because your notebook's drive controller is only SATA II (3.0 GB/S) and the SATA SSD is SATA III (6.0 GB/S), so it runs at half speed.

There's nothing you can do to fix that.  It is a hardware limitation.

Thanks Paul, 4 the SOL hardware confirmation & as always your stat response's,                                                                                  Heard W10 Lite or W10 LTSC had a work around 4 slower SSD read/write speed wise? Maybe Snake OIL?

Hope all is well with U, been a few years since my last ?

You're very welcome, Rockets.

I've been fine, and I hope you have been too.

Anything you may have read about speeding up a SATA 3 SSD to run faster from a SATA II controller would be scuttlebutt.

But the notebook should run much better with a SSD even from a SATA II controller.

I installed SSDs in all my older PCs with SATA Ii controllers.

Cheers,

Paul
