OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-c0000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I believe I can add a second SSD to my laptop. But I was looking for size specificatons and any special instructions beyond bolting it in

You can download the service manual for the laptop you have here; https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/omen-16.1-inch-gaming-laptop-pc-16-c0000/2100371407/manuals

It should tell you in there what size type of M.2 drive you can fit (2280, 2260, or 2242) it is most likely 2280.

Good starting info, I believe you are right about 2280.

It gave the specs on the two possible ones that could have been installed. But it doesn't specify the dimension limitations (primarily thickness) that would fit. I also was wondering if there was a drive capacity limit. I know thickness restrictions might make the capacity size for me but it would be nice to know if there was one. I know I could probably find an SSD that matched those dimensions but was wondering if it could be thicker.

I noticed on mine the primary drive had a foam pad (not sure if it was a heat pad or not) between the SSD and cover. But the spare drive location did not have a pad on the cover. Should I be able to add a heat pad to the cover to protect it.

Thanks again
