HP Pavilion x360 - 14-dh1155tu
Microsoft Windows 11

After a fair bit of research I bought a M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe 2TB SSD for my x360 14-DH1155TU, cloned the original 256GB SSD and swapped them over, but the laptop doesn’t accept it. The service manual only mentions 256 and 512GB but numerous 3rd party sites listed up to 2TB as compatible.

I can view the 2TB SSD in Windows when connected via USB so I’m pretty sure the cloning was successful. Assuming 512GB is the standard limit, is there any way of getting the laptop to accept the 2TB SSD?

Hi,

When you cloned the drive, did you clone all partitions (the whole drive) and resize to use all the space on the larger drive?

You could also perform a clean install using HP cloud recovery (creating a USB)

Hope it helps,

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I cloned all partitions and selected the option (in Macrium Reflect) to use all available disk space.

I guess you’re saying that there’s no reason why the laptop should not be able to accept the 2TB SSD.  I'll give the HP Cloud Recovery Tool a go and will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again
Carl

Hi David

I performed the clean install using HP Cloud Recovery and it worked. A bit frustrating that the cloning method wouldn’t work because it’s so much quicker but at least I’m now up and running with a 2TB primary drive.

Many thanks for your help - much appreciated.

cheers

Carl

You're welcome Carl,

Glad you sorted it out. I guess the good thing is that you start with a fresh OS. Remember to update all through Windows update. This way it will not continue updating in the background.

All the best,

David
