The ssd drive  went. What can I replace it with?

How do I know which ssd it is without taking apart? the manual states a pcie or a sata iii.

The product specs for your notebook indicate that it came with a 1 TB mechanical hard drive.

If you want to remove that drive and replace it with a M.2 SSD, I recommend the faster NVMe (PCIe) SSD's.

Recommended replacements:

Samsung 980 (not 980 Pro), or the Western Digital Blue SN570.

it also had a 128 gb ssd. Just don't know if it was sata or pcie

Gotcha.

That isn't listed in the specs.

The 128 GB SSD was a NVMe SSD according to the parts list.

PCIe = NVMe.

You can install a larger capacity NVMe SSD in there if you want.

ok great. I also have one other question about this machine. How do I disable the intel graphics and use the video card for everything? I went into the nvidia software,but it only allows for 3d settings. Makes no sense to use the intel with the video card as an option.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't be possible.

Your notebook has dynamic switchable graphics adapters, which means the notebook automatically switches back and forth to the graphics adapter it needs for best results.

If you are using the PC for web browsing and e-mailing, etc., it uses the Intel graphics.

If you are playing video games or other graphics-intensive programs, when the Intel GPU can't handle the load, it switches to the Nvidia GPU.

There is no option in the BIOS to set the Nvidia GPU as the sole graphics adapter.

I forgot to mention that if you aren't going to clean install W10 on the new SSD...

You can use the HP cloud recovery tool with another PC running W7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Since you have to install the recovery tool on another PC, after you launch it, you will need to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window to proceed.

out of the 2 drives you suggest,{Samsung 980 (not 980 Pro), or the Western Digital Blue SN570.} which one? price is $10 more for the samsung 500g. But $20 more for 1tb samsung. Want the best drive considering the mb and cpu.
