Hello @Unkown21

Others with the Envy j000 series laptops have said they were successful using the mSata port.

Service Manual:  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03733656

Drivers page for updating bios: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/

But I would take a look at this thread before installing...

First... Is the mSata drive recognized in the bios?

How are you installing Windows? USB method created from the Microsoft Media Creation Tool?

If so, as its setting up the USB drive as an installer, it will ask if you want to Use the recommended options for this PC. Uncheck that box.

When you install Windows, you will need to disconnect the HDD first, then go into the bios and disable Secure Boot. Usually its under System Configuration>Boot Options.

F9 should access the boot options to choose the USB drive.

Make sure your bios is up to date also.  F.70 Rev.A  sp82482.exe

NOte that you will want to backup any data you need from the HDD to an external drive.

After Windows is installed, you will need to wipe the HDD and use it as a storage drive.

If your mSata drive is recognized, it should work as a boot drive according to others who have done it.

If you are booting into Windows now, see if the drive shows up in Devices and Drives. If so, you should be OK.

If you go into Boot Options, you should also see it.

You might have to change bios settings from UEFI to Legacy mode. The mSata should at least show up in Legacy boot options.
