I am about to purchase HP Notebook - 15-bs168cl i5 8th generation , wanted to know can i add a SSD without replacing the HDD drive ? laptop have alread 2TB HDD but i wanted to add SSD without replacing it for performance issue . also this machine is okay for Software development purpose . ? . urgent help needed before i buy this .

That model has a M.2 slot that supports SATA SSD's only, not NVMe.
See chapter 1 of the service manual for the supported drive types.

Unfortunately, I would not be able to answer your other question.
It whatever you do requires graphics-intensive work, then this model would not be a good choice, since it only has the onboard Intel graphics adapter.
