HP ProBook 640 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Folks,

I have an HP ProBook 640 G1 running 64 bit Windows 10 Enterprise version 1607 build 14393.1914.  The machine has an Intel Core i7-4702MQ CPU and 8GB RAM.   According to Speccy from Piriform the machine contains a Samsung 256GB SSD MZ7PD256HCGM-000H7 (firmware DXM06H6Q).

After installing and running Samsung Magician 5.1.0 it reports that the drive and RAPID mode is not supported?

Can anyone tell me what is happening here?

Many thanks

Samsung Magician is for aftermarket Samsung SSD's.

For built in OEM HP Samsung SSD's, you must use the HP Samsung NVM Express Driver.

My HP Zbook 17 G4 has one of each—HP Samsung 256 GB and an aftermarket Samsung 960 EVO 250 GB.

Hi Cheyenne4,

Thank you for your reply.  I am a wee bit confused as the Samsung MZ7PD256HCGM-000H7 comes up as a :

840 PRO 2.5" SSD 256GB SATA III

This is not an M.2 drive so does this really need the HP Samsung NVM Express Driver.  If so, then where can I download the driver from?

Many thanks

Sorry if I confused you.  Yes, my reply was for the NVMe M.2 drive, not for the SATA.

The appropriate driver for your SATA 2.5" can be found at the HP support site for your particular device.

Hi Cheyenne4,

Thank you for your reply.  Looked on the Downloads for the ProBook 640 G1 and there is no mention of a driver for the Samsung SSD.  There in one for Intel, Seagate and Hitachi but no Samsung.

Trust me to have a completely non-standard ProBook!  🙂

Kind regards

Paddy, another option would be go to Device Manager* > Disk Drives > select your drive > Update Driver.

* Right click Windows logo on task bar to find Device Manager.
