Omen 15-ce0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Omen 15-ce0xx which arrived with a 1Tb HDD and a SAMSUNG MZVLW256HEHP-000H1256GB M2 NVMe SSD.

I have already replaced the HDD with a Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB  and now want to upgrade the NVMe drive, hopefully to 1TB.

The drive I selected is a Samsung from Amazon UK -Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-V7S1T0) but I gather from earlier posts on this site that there may be compatibility issues with this.

My questions are:

1) whether anyone has actually put this drive in an Omen and got it to work as Amazon will not do returns where they haven't specified compatibility?

2) Can the incompatibility issues be easily resolved ?

3) My fall back position is to install a 512GB SSD from HP but I can't find a way to purchase this on line from HP in the UK. Any advice?

Very grateful for any help you can give.

Thanks, Ian

Still likely not a problem. I have frankly never had a compatibility issue with an HP laptop and a Samsung 970 Evo or Evo Plus. The Omens seem to have very few reported problems.

The 970 Evo Plus will be fine. Compatability issues with NVME M.2 SSDs were an issue with 6th gen and some 7th gen models. Yours is an 8th gen Intel Core processor and will not have any issue.

Thanks for the information Huffer, unfortunately whilst my Omen is definitely the Omen 15 - ce0xx model the sticker on it says 'intel core i7 7th Gen' so I assume from that I could have compatibility problems?

Again, thanks for your help. I'm reassured and will get one ordered.

I just thought I should provide an outcome to  my question. I purchased the 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD from Amazon. No problems installing it and it works fine - well fine is a bit of an understatement really Windows 10 is ready to use 30 seconds after pressing the power on button.

Amazing isn't it? Glad it worked but I never doubted.

Hi,

In the past I wanted to add to my HP Omen 17-w170nw additional SSD M.2 SM961 3D NAND (Samsung - S/N: MZVPW256HEGL-0000) as it had only 1TB HDD 7200 rpm.

Unfortunately it does not worked properly with 1TB HDD and Samsung SM961 256 GB NVMe M.2 and I had to resign from such an upgrade.

I've found in service manual (assuming that OMEN model NV N17E-G1 is the same as Omen 17-w170nw as attached)  that my Omen with Intel  i7-6700K and nVidia GTX-1060M accepts  SSD PCIe up to 256 GB but only TLC in dual storage configuration or NVMe M.2 SSD TLC up to 512GB as single M.2 configuration.  So not each SSD M.2 NVMe  is compatible with Omen M.2 drive in all disc configurations.

In this case I used finaly Samsung PM961 512GB M.2 NVMe TLC as single configuration (I took out HDD 1TB).

Regards,

Richard
