Hello,

I have a USPHL-LT-1238RG notebook and would like to purchase a Samsung Ultrawide monitor, specifically the S29E790C model.  Is my notebook campatible with this model?  Would there be any issues?

Best Regards,

Samantha

Displayport is a specific type of interface for carrying signals from a computer to a monitor. I know that monitor has a Displayport connection for incoming signal. The reason I need to know the model of the laptop is to see if it supports Displayport out.

The cable looks like this:

And your laptop has a displayport on it. See p. 2 item 2 of the specs here:

Samsung also provides supporting software for the ultrawide monitors which is helpful.

That model number for the laptop means nothing. Please check again for an actual model number or Product Number.

I have the non-curved Samsung 29 inch ultra-widescreen and it definitely works best driven by a displayport adapter. It has been hit and miss with HDMI and the software for split screen and such only works from a DP port.

Hi Huffer,

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.  The model I have is a HP EliteBook 840 G2.

Pardon my ignorance, but what type of display port is it that you use? I'll be sure to follow your advice and purchase one as well.

Hi Huffer,

I just receive my monitor and it looks great! However, when you want to have a dual monitor feel and work between multiple documets, do you manually have to open and place documents on the screen?  OR is there a split screen feature that you use?  The PIP only seems to work if you have multiple sources and I am looking for a dual monitor-type setting for my one laptop; maybe something similar to the LG split screen feature.  I figured I would ask you since you have this monitor and the Samsung tech wasn't really helpful and referred me to the manual each time.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Thanks!

The PIP only works as you said if there are multiple sources, even two different ports from the same computer. I am not really clear exactly what you want to do. I always use mine in extended desktop mode. In that mode you do have to drag a program over to the extended screen although Windows 10 at least will remember the last screen a program opened on and reopen it on the same screen so for example my browser opens on the main screen (the 4K in my case) on the left and the Outlook opens on the second monitor on the right. Word opens on the left since I rarely use the browser and Word at the same time. Since Windows 10 can put the quick launch bar onn all extended screens it seems a trivial matter to drag what you want where you want it and do not forget snap. If you drag something all the way to the left or right it will snap open to fill exactly half the screen.

Thank you, I didn't even think about Window's snap and shake feature.  That feature is the solution to my problem. 😃
