Product: Hp envy x360
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The last couple of digits of the serial number are scratched out in a newly purchased laptop(on the underside) and the QR code has a scratch on it too.

What does this signify? Is it likely to be deliberate?

The warranty available on this device is 6 months.

What would you advise?

are you sure it's a new product ?

serial number can be read also in the BIOS.

 

once read , seacrh in google "HP warranty check"  name of your country, then insert the serial number and verify it.

Greetings!

From what I have been told;

It was purchased from a retailer (not a private sale) and by all appearances is brand new. 

One of the sales staff explained that apparently the stock is imported in bulk and its seems this practice is to avoid paying hefty customs duty. 

However he confirmed as you have that its also recorded in the BIOS & it doesn't void the warranty.
