The bottom left hand corner of the screen has come away from the lid.  Maybe a hinge issue. Trying to close the lid will likely cause more damage. How do I get it repaired?

Hi @Br1anG,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for reaching out, and I’m really sorry to hear about the issue you’re experiencing. I understand how concerning this can be, especially when it looks like a hinge-related problem, and you’re worried about causing further damage.

Based on what you’ve described, this does sound like a hinge or display assembly issue, which is a known hardware concern if the screen has separated from the lid. You’re absolutely right not to force the lid closed, as that can worsen the damage to the display, hinges, or internal cables.

What to expect next

  • If your device is under warranty, this type of issue is typically covered, provided there is no accidental or physical damage caused externally.
  • HP will assess the unit and determine whether a repair or part replacement (such as hinge or display assembly) is required.

Recommended next steps

  • Please power off the device and avoid opening or closing the lid further.
  • Take the laptop to an HP Authorized Service Center as soon as possible. They have the tools and certified technicians to properly inspect and repair the unit.
  • If the system is still within warranty, the service center can process the repair under warranty after inspection.

You can locate the nearest HP Authorized Service Center using HP’s official support website for your region.
