Hi @esraesra,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop screen suddenly went dark and is barely visible, and you’re unable to use or power it off normally. Let’s go through a few steps to check what you can do until you take it for service.

Try a forced shutdown
Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds until the laptop turns off.
Wait 10 seconds, then power it back on and check if the display returns.

Check if the display is actually on
Shine a flashlight or phone torch closely at the screen.
If you can faintly see the desktop or icons, this points to a backlight or display hardware issue.

Connect to an external display
Connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI or DisplayPort.
If the external screen works normally, the issue is likely limited to the laptop’s internal display or cable.

Use keyboard shortcuts to wake or switch display
Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the graphics driver.
Also try Windows + P and press the arrow keys to switch display modes.

Reduce load and check temperature (if screen comes back briefly)
If the screen flickers back on, close heavy applications like ArcGIS Pro.
Overheating or GPU strain can cause repeated screen blackouts.

Check power and brightness keys
Make sure the charger is connected securely.
Press the brightness increase key (usually Fn + a sun icon) to rule out a brightness setting issue.

Leave the laptop powered off
If the screen remains dark or unstable, keep the laptop turned off until service.
Repeated power cycling while a display or GPU issue exists can worsen the problem.

I hope this helps.
