HP Notebook - 17-by1053dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Screen hinge has forced the upper and lower body of the keyboard section to separate. At first it just seemed like a small problem and the screen would still close but it has escalated and now I can't close the computer without the keyboard body coming apart.

I'm comfortable repairing computers, I just need to know how to get any necessary replacement parts and the repair procedure. When I try to close screen, it forces the body open.Tried to get a shot of the hinge itself.

Your best bet is Get the HP Part Number and google search for it most times you can find the replacement part on ebay relatively cheap or amazon will have one for sale What blows my mind is HP would offer up a recall to fix this defect in workmanship since it is a defect with all HP laptops especially the 17" Laptops

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
After reading your post, I did go through the
Maintenance and Service Guide of your product and found out the hinge assembly part number. Here is the part number: L22536-001 you can enter the part numbers in the Google search bar to discover the website selling the exact Hinge assembly.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for the response. After using the manual you provided I was able to disassemble the laptop. The problem isn't the hinges. The plastic mounts on the top cover that the hinges are supposed to screw into are all broken.

Do I need a new top cover or is there another fix for this?
