Pavilion DV7 2215sa
Linux

Hi ,

I have a DV7 2215sa  Notebook  ( s/n [Personal Information Removed])

The screen suddenly appeared totally black but  still starts /works perfectly  ok  - the screen image appears on external monitor when connected via Hdmi cable .

On closer inspection with a torch , the screen image or page on the Laptop screen is still there but in dark shadow .

I have read this  means a replacement  screen inverter is needed .

Can anyone please tell me if there are new replacement parts still available for the DV7 or would i have to look around for used part on Ebay etc ?

I have seen some of these  offered  but all they say is for HP Pavilion "DV7" -  mine is a 2215sa , so is it a case of just the same inverter model part  used for all the DV7 range or would it be a specific  part needed for the 2215sa ?

Any help or advice  much appreciated .

LED panels do not use a separate inverter. I checked the Manual for your laptop:

There is no inverter in the parts list. This likely means it is an LED panel and the backlight takes power directly from the motherboard without being stepped up by an inverter. So the backlight in the screen panel is bad. Theoretically can be replaced but much easier just to replace the panel.

If I am wrong then you will find an inverter at the bottom of the screen housing when you remove the bezel and you can take the part number identifiers off of it. If you can post a picture of the inverter I can pretty well guarantee we can find a replacement.

Hi Huffer ,

Thanks for your very helpful reply .

This makes sense as it seems to me that the bezel design on the 2215sa seems slightly different to other DV7 models and  i have seen  on videos showing the screen replacement process , so i expect there  is no inverter as you suggest.

That being the case  , can any  DV7  model  replacement  panel  be  usable or would i have to locate a specific part   used in my model the 2215sa ?

And are any panels for this model still available new or would i have to try and find a second hand part from Ebay etc ?

The manual page you linked to shows -

"Flush glass display panel (includes display panel cable

For use in black computers  (mine is black) - Spare part no. 519262-001 "

Am i correct that this is the part i will need - ie  does the panel  include the backlight ?

Many thanks again ,
