Hello.

My screen is extremely wiggly when I open up my laptop. Also, the bottom portion lifts up, which has caused screws to fall out at random times. Is there something HP can do about this?

Is it just the screw falling out or is it the entire screw holder that broke from the plastic?  If it is just the screw falling out you can simply screw them back in.  i have seen that happen on many computers and usually it is caused by the screws becoming lose over time.

Not to disagree, but screws never just fall out of a laptop. The physics involved would be extraordinary. Something would have to spontaneously turn the screw at least 5 or 6 rotations at 360 degrees per until it became loose enough to wiggle the rest of the way out. What CAN and DOES happen is that the mounting place (screwhole) can be torqued, pulling on the screw until the hole is bigger than the barrel of the screw and then it falls out. That is called stripping of threads and it happens on laptops where the screen hinges have frozen so that the opening and closing of the screen applies stress onto the screws fixing the hinge assembly to the chassis. In such a case all that can be done is to replace the hinges and sometimes the mounting points are also damaged and chassis parts also have to be replaced. HP is known to offer assistance in some cases but that is beyond what we can do. Will attempt to escalate and good luck.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure where the screws are coming out of. But what you are saying makes a lot of sense. At this point, do you think it is beneficial to look into having this issue fixed (I have had the laptop for 4 years). Or should I look to invest in a new laptop?

Your call, friend. If you are experienced in taking apart laptops it can be fixed for parts costing somewhere between $20 and $150 depending on if it is just the hinges or also the chassis parts. If you have to have a technician do it definitely lean towards a new laptop. They are making some really cool new ones.

In my experience it is the screws are not very tight when they leave the factory installed in the computer and over time they fall out some how.
