I have used the sd card slot before and it was working, just a few days ago I wanted to use it again but to no avail,

I tried the  sd-card on another hp pavilion x360, similar model and it was working perfectly.

pictures below showing capture of device manager and a capture of how the sd card appears on my computer but doesnt open.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

I have installed all recommended updates showing on hp support assistant, nothing happened, still I can't open my sd card using my built-in SD card reader. I think it has something to do with compatibility between windows and the hardware. I have also checked Hp support page to install the recent driver version available there but I found  literally nothing regarding my built-in SD reader driver ?

Please run an SFC scan and also try with a New User Account

I ran a system file checker and it went successfully but the issue still exist, I cant see how adding a new user will sort out this type of a problem, I have another local account and with both, my built-in SD reader cant read SD cards.

hp support page don't have the driver files for my SD card reader ?

windows version:19041.450

my laptop model is: HP Pavilion x360 - 14-cd0002ne

Product number: 4MK01EA
it has one Expansion slot: 1 multi-format SD media card reader

but for some reason there is no driver available through hp.support for this model !

Laptop is still under warranty but I  still believe I can save time and effort by finding a solution here.

Before going for the repair options, I suggest you perform a Reset and check if that helps
