I would like to repalce the old seagate momentus thin sata I that crashed unrecoverably, with one of the two new seagate barracuda compute ST500LM030 sata III or barracuda compute ST1000LML048 sata III that are in my availability. May someone kindly tell me if they are compatible with my hp pavilion 15-n086?
I've tried to mount the second, to reinstall the OS afresh one neither the usb nor the cd-dvd seem to work. I mounted back the old disk and the UEFI/BIOS test all passed (apart the disk obviously). I made a mistake in mounting the new disk? the peek power consumption could be too high (1,7W versus 1.54W) or the sata versions are really not always compatible despite a reduction of performances?
Do exist sites in internet where i can test/know about the compatibility of HD with HP PCs, as for instance the CRUCIAL site?
Thanks a lot for the support

No sites are going to specifically tell you compatibility of specific SATA hard drives with specific HP laptops. Theoretically, SATA is SATA and a current SATA III device should be backward compatible even onto a legacy SATA I system. I have installed hundreds of laptop hard drives and never really had a problem with a SATA hard drive replacement. SSDs do have occasional compatibility issues. Can you more specifically tell us how you have tried to do this? Does the BIOS pick up the presence of the new Seagate hard drive?
