Long story short, dropped my laptop while it was running and the hard drive died. My only option right now to get it fixed it just to harvest the drive from inside an external one (Seagate expansion 2tb to be exact) to use. Are there any issues I can expect to run into while using it?

Many external HDD's use different connections to USB port. You need to know what is its actual connector inside otherwise you can't connect it to your computer.

Why you have to do that hard ? To save money ? No, you won't save money for all the headache

Regards.
