HP Notebook - 15-db0046nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I know I should go shopping for a new AC Adapter for my HP laptop soon. It works okay right now, but the wire is starting to fray a little, at the part where the wire enters the AC Adapter. I covered it with tape for now, but I know it’s a good idea to purchase a replacement before my AC Adapter gets any worse.

However, I’m having a lot of trouble finding the correct part. That is, I am pretty sure the HP Parts Store identified the exact part I need, but I am not sure I will be able to buy it directly from the HP Parts Store, and I can’t seem to find anything compatible on Amazon.

I have a HP Notebook - 15 - db0046nr that I purchased in 2019. When I plugged in the information for my laptop into the HP Parts Store, it said I should purchase the following AC Adapter:

741727-001 In stock
Smart AC power adapter (45 watt) - 4.5mm barrel connector, non-power factor correcting (NPFC) - Requires 3-wire AC power cord with C5 connector
RoHS: Compliant/Exempted

If I am reading this correctly, this means that HP sells the adapter itself along with the wire that connects from the adapter to my laptop, but the wire that connects from the adapter to my wall outlet is sold separately. If so, where could I purchase that wire? It doesn’t appear to be listed on the HP Parts Store search results for my laptop.

Also, I am not sure if I would be able to use any of the accepted payment methods for the HP Part Store. According to the HP Parts Store FAQ it seems like the Parts Store only accepts credit cards. That wouldn’t do me any good, because I don’t have a credit card. I can only pay with debit or PayPal. Unless I am misreading the guidelines? Are there other accepted payment methods available to folks who have an account with HP?

If there’s absolutely no way for HP to accept debit or PayPal as payment, I may not have many other options. I searched Amazon for the exact AC Adapter that the HP Parts Store recommended for my laptop, and while I did find a few that might possibly match, my particular model of laptop (HP Notebook 15 - db0046nr) doesn’t show up on any of the lists of compatible devices. E.g. One AC Adapter appears to match the basic description (45 watts, barrel connector) but my laptop is not listed among the compatible devices.

Does this mean my AC Adapter is so old/rare that I wouldn’t be able to find any replacement parts on Amazon? Or can I actually choose an AC Adapter on Amazon that matches the description (Smart AC power adapter (45 watt) - 4.5mm barrel connector) even if it doesn’t list my laptop on the list of compatible devices?

I recall reading somewhere that you should only hook up your laptop to AC Adapters that are compatible. On the other hand, I recall getting advice from the user NonSequitur777 the last time I asked for assistance on this forum, and NonSequitur777 said that in certain cases the product I find on Amazon doesn’t need to explicitly say it’s compatible with HP Notebook 15 - db0046nr, so long as all the other criteria match up. Of course, that was for replacing my internal laptop battery, not my AC Adapter, but I imagine the principle is the same.

If I don’t need to purchase an AC Adapter that explicitly says it’s compatible with HP Notebook 15 - db0046nr, then is it possible I could get some expert advice from you folks to make sure I am choosing the product on Amazon that is best for my laptop?

Guide to upgrading or replacing the HT03XL battery in the HP 250/255 G7 laptop. This is a fairly easy task to complete, requiring just a small Philips head screwdriver and plastic pry tool. The laptops takes a HT03XL battery, which can be found here: https://amzn.to/2VGSE5S
