Windows 10 64Bit / HP Pavilion dv7 / Model: dv7-3162nr / Current drive is SSD for the OS
Cable: "2nd SATA Cable for dv7-6000"
Hello. I just installed a second hard drive, it's a HDD as a second hard drive. Since this second drive is not recognized, I then went to the BIOS. I cannot see the drive to enable it. Would the connection cable be the issue. It says it is a "dv7-6000" cable, but my laptop is dv7-3162nr. The cable fits well in the board and to the HHD.
Please how do I make the laptop recognize the second HHD?
Cheers

Try using the Windows diskpart utility to see if it is recognized as present there.

Please see attached for the results I found. The system shows as removable "Disk 1". I don't know what this means. It shows the same with our without the disk attached, and even without the SATA cable.
If you zoom in to the cable, you'll see a 'burnt' or worn out portions. The cable is 10" (24mm) long and no where to tuck it in, so, the cover presses on it when screwed on. Why would the wires be showing. No heat on that area.
I feel the BIOS would first need to see the drive, and I could not see how to set that enabling. Does the BIOS see it and call it a "Removable" drive? Am confused.

Where did you purchase that cable and SATA connector for the second drive?
If it is not the same as what I provided below from the Maintenance & Service guide for your notebook, you may have fried the interface circuit for a second SATA drive.
It is burned and that is an indicator of extreme heat and a circuit issue.
The description and part number are for the only parts that will work with your laptop
I found the Maintenance & Service guide at a third party website. (See Illustrated Parts list - page 31 of the Maintenance & Service guide)
