HP ENVY 15-ae
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am looking for a way to upgrade the SSD in a HP Envy 15-ae. I opened it up and the configuration is the following:

- main 256Gb Samsung PCIE SSD

- emtpy HDD1 area next to DVD-drive, but no tray and only an empty HDD1 connector on the main boardenvy15ae-ssd2.jpg

Does anybody know if it is simply a case of getting a larger SSD, i.e 2.5" SSD 512Gb, a flat flex SATA cable and a tray bracket and connecting it to the HDD1 sata connector on the main board? ? Or is there an issue that the hardware is not designed to cope with two drives or the HDD1 is not intended for this purpose at all?

Any pointers are appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Barry

Hi Chetan,

this laptop actually does have two connectors, so probably lucky here. I checked with the additional cable I got and 2nd SSD all works fine.

All happy here! 🙂

Thanks for your support.

@BA37

Hey there!

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I understand that you need to know whether you can add an additional hard drive to your laptop.

According to the specifications of your laptop. Some laptops either go with SSD or with SATA hard drives.

In your situation, your laptop went with SSD drive.

So you cannot put an additional hard drive on your laptop.

However, you can upgrade your SSD drive by using the part number below.

512 GB SSD (for computer models equipped with an Intel processor) 749762-001

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day!

Hi Chetan,

thank you very much fo ryour reply and indpeth answer.

I found out in the meanwhile that on this particular laptop it is possible add an additional SSD next to the pcie-SSD. They work perfectly fine together. All it needs is just an additional cable and brackets. Part numbers combined or single:

812686-001 NBX0001XD00 OEM HP HD CADDY ENCLOSURE W/ CABLE ENVY M6-P M6-P113DX

HP HDD connector cable 812697-001 (HP M6-P013DX)
HP HD hardware Kit 812686-001 (M6-P113DX)

Cheers,

Hi! @BA37, thanks for the response.

I understand that you need to know whether you can install a secondary hard drive on your laptop.

I checked the specifications of your laptop and found that you cannot install a secondary hard drive.

As there are certain models of HP  ENVY 15 which went along with two drive slots and two separate connectors.

Your laptop does not have that option. So you cannot install a secondary drive.

Let me know if you have any other queries.

Cheers! 🙂
