I am SO FED UP with this issue. For the last 2-3 years, each time there is a security update, my tracker pad stops working. I can turn it on - if it doesn't work, I know there is a security update. I could be using it with no issues, then the tracker pad suddenly stops working, and I know there is a security update. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? It really is driving me up the wall. It can sometimes start working with one restart, the last time this happened, it took several DAYS before the tracker pad stopped working. Again today, the tracker pad stopped working... guess why? Yup. Security update. A restart didn't work and now I have had to hook into an external mouse. Is there a fix to this? It is putting me right off getting another HP ever again.

Hi @KimberleyME,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
To be able to answer you effectively, we need some information.
May I have the exact product name and number? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.
Meanwhile, Perform the steps below.
Turn the touchpad off and then on
On some touchpads, you can turn the touchpad on or off by double tapping in the upper-left corner of the touchpad.
Procedure
Double-tap to turn the touchpad off.
Repeat to turn the touchpad on.
Perform a hard reset
Performing a hard reset erases all the information that is stored in your computer's temporary memory. This forces Windows to do a complete scan of the system, including the battery. Perform a power reset (or hard reset) of your computer to clear information from the computer memory without erasing personal data.
- Turn off the computer.
- Disconnect the AC adapter.
- Remove any discs from the disc drive.
- Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
- Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
- NOTE: Do not disconnect your mouse, keyboard, or monitor.
- With the AC adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Test the touchpad in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
- Run Component Tests in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI to test the touchpad, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
- Procedure
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu is displayed, press the f2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests.
- To run the tests, click Mouse/Touchpad, select the test to run, and then click Run once. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the test.
- NOTE:
- Bluetooth devices are not currently supported.
- NOTE:
- Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
