Hello HP Team,

I replaced the motherboard in my HP laptop (Model: HP 15, Intel Core i3-8130U, BIOS Version: F.49), and now the serial number is missing from BIOS. When I check using wmic bios get serial number, it returns either blank or "To be filled by O.E.M."

Unfortunately, I no longer have access to the original serial number (sticker is gone and no invoice available).

I want to ask:

  1. Can HP still help reprogram the serial number even if I don't have the original?

  2. Is there a way to assign a new one so that HP tools and drivers work properly?

  3. Can an authorized HP service center set a valid serial number for me?

I’d really appreciate guidance on what steps I should take next.

Thanks in advance for your support!

New motherboard MUST have new license key (embedded). Where did you buy new system board ? Please ask them Other option is to buy a new key from Microsoft.

Thanks for the response. I recently replaced my motherboard through a local technician (not directly via HP). The good news is, Windows is already activated, so I’m not facing issues there. However: I keep seeing this message on boot: "Manufacture Programming Mode is in Unlock Mode" And more importantly, my system serial number is missing (shows as blank in BIOS/System Information). I understand that the serial number is usually embedded in the motherboard. Is there any way I can get the serial number written back—either by contacting HP support or visiting an authorized service center? Also, does this "Manufacture Mode Unlock" mean something is unfinished or needs configuration? Would really appreciate your help or guidance on how to proceed from here. Thank you!
