HP 255 G5 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

On boot-up, the hard drive fails with message 'Smart Hard Disk Error' Imminent failure detected. I tried to use the support portal to arrange warranty repair and return. The web page does not recognise the serial number(CND367G0Q) and therefore I can get no further. When the equipment was registered, I was told the serial number from the web page, which agreed with the one I have. I want HP to repair the Notebook under the warranty agreement. What is the best way to do this?

Hi! @PBStaindrop, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I understand hard drive on your laptop has failed with Smart Hard Disk Error.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes to your printer?

As you mentioned when you try to enter the serial number of the product in HP website to arrange warranty repair and return but it's not getting recognized.

It looks to be some website issue, have you tried checking with the product number?

If the issue still persists with the product number try contacting HP phone support and get the PC serviced.

Link to contact HP.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day! 🙂
