HP Laptop 17-ca0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a hp17 laptop that has separating at the hinge where the screen and the deck/keyboard. It started out with making a clicking noise when being opened, which quickly turned into a cracking noise,   The next time I opened it up, I not only heard the cracking noise, but, saw the top right corner over the speaker hole begin to crack. I put my fingers over it to hopefully prevent it and ended up getting a large splintering piece of plastic in my finger for the effort. Upon closing the laptop I was able to see that the whole bottom corner of the screen was separating completely. This is actually the second HP laptop to do this to me. The first one I was told was not worth fixing. Tried again with this HP laptop , only to have the same issue six months after I got it. Neither of them had ever been dropped and have been treated with care. Very upset.

I haven't been able to determine whether or not this is covered under the original warranty which I still have coverage under until 6/25/2020.

Anyone else have this problem and know whether it is covered?

Appreciate any help and or ideas! Thanks!.

Thank you so much for your prompt answer Sandytechy20 . I followed your advice and mailed out my laptop today in the package that I received yesterday after speaking with someone by telephone.

I ended up having to take out the extended warranty package - offered at a reduced rate - as the most cost effectively way to have my laptop fixed. My original warranty provided with laptop purchase still had a few months left on it, but did not cover shipping or expedited  fix and return.

Being physically disabled since birth, I survive on a Social (In)Security Disability check that doesn't really allow a means for much beyond basically existing, this might make the end of the month a bit tough, but, knowing that my biggest lifeline ---my laptop, lol ---- will be back home with me in just a week, makes it all worth it!

Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction!
