Hi I noticed the case or shell of my laptop scratches easily, and as someone who tries to keep computers mint, this is infuriating. Is there any possible way to change the shell to a hard plastic, like black?

For some models you can find aftermarket hard shells. I just got one for my wife's new MacBook Pro and it cost about $30. It clips on easily around the chassis and protects the original casing from scratches, etc. HP does not make such a thing so you have to find a 3rd party vendor on eBay or amazon.com or something like that. If I had your exact model number I could help you look.

The model is 15-ay039wm. I mean by shell as in the whole case.

No that idea is a nonstarter. The case made for it is the case you have and its a WalMart model, right? You bought it cheap. Trying to buy individual chassis parts will be very expensive and it would cost a ton of labor to have someone do it. The laptop would have to be rebuilt from the ground up. Maybe while you are at it you could have it 3D printed out of fingerprint resistant stainless steel? That would be cool.

Yes it's Walmart, and it wasn't cheap but the case most certainly is cheap, but I wish you could change it

Well I wish you could too but look into the hard shells next best thing. They do not add much to the bulk of the thing and do protect it and look OK.

Alright then thanks for the info 🙂
